Die Welle Köln - at a glance
The neighborhood development "Köln - Die Welle" on the former Deutsche Welle site in Marienburg covers 52,600 m² and offers around 752 residential units, including 70 affordable units. The site covers a total of 71,039 m² and offers a mix of residential, commercial and daycare facilities. Shops for everyday needs, schools, supermarkets and public transport are all within easy reach. The energy supply is ensured by photovoltaic systems on the roof and the use of district heating.
Why is the asset attractive?
Advantages
- Revitalization through an extensive asbestos removal project (the largest project of its kind in Europe)
- District development for the repurposing of an existing building (former Deutsche Welle Areal)
- 20,000 tons of steel girders were cleaned and prepared for reuse in the project
- In the redesign of the area, attention was paid to the recycling of materials from the deconstruction of existing buildings, as well as the conservation of natural resources and green spaces.
